Three-tiered Baby Shower Cake

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

This was my first tiered cake I ever made! This cake was designed for my cousin's baby shower.  Can you guess what gender she was having?  I would think that all the pink would be a dead give away.

The top layer was covered in chocolate fondant with pink and white fondant circles.  My Mom had bought
these adorable shoes for the baby and we used them as a topped.  I protected the shoes from the chocolate with a little parchment paper.  The top layer had Pasty Shells most popular flavor, Red Velvet:

Next up, the middle layer...

I am the most proud of this layer mostly because it is all hand piped.  The baby's name is Eowynn which is beautifully (if I say so myself) piped on white fondant and decorated with argyle-like pink and brown stripes.  This layer, along with the bottom layer, is a Chocolate Cake with Swiss Meringue Frosting.

Finally, the bottom layer:

I kept this simple by covering it with custom pink fondant and adding chocolate fondant stripes.  The whole cake sits on a wooden round wrapped in decorative brown foil.

I love how this cake turned out!
